What is an HVAC?
HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and refers to a system that integrates all of those functions into one unit to heat or cool your living or working space. An HVAC works by moving warm air around, either between rooms, or out of the house when cooling is desired.
What is a heat pump?
While an A/C only cools, and a regular furnace only heats, a heat pump is designed to both cool and heat your home or commercial space.
What are SEER ratings?
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating or Ratio. It measures the energy efficiency of your A/C. It’s the ratio of the cooling output divided by watt-hours of energy used, averaged out over a cooling season with temperatures from 60-100. degrees. As of 2023, 15.0 is the minimum SEER rating for heat pumps and air conditioners in Florida.
Why is my A/C blowing hot air?
If you’re A/C is blowing out warm air, you’re A/C refrigerant is often low or leaking. When that happens, your air conditioner continues to run and blow warm air, trying to reach the temperature set on your thermostat. Other possible causes:
Check the thermostat, is it set low enough, did someone mess with the settings?
Check the breaker system. It could be that the indoor unit is running properly, but the outdoor unit has lost power.
Check the air filter, and see if it’s dirty or clogged.
Check the outdoor unit for ice or debris.

Why won’t my A/C turn on?
This is usually a thermostat problem. Make sure it’s turned on, set to “cool”. Most HVAC systems will stop running if the drain line becomes clogged and the float switch trips, a blown fuse, or a lack of regular HVAC maintenance. How long can an A/C run continuously?
You can run your air conditioner all day long on hot days if you need to. It won’t harm your unit, as long as you don’t set the inside temperature too low, which could cause your system to overwork. During 100-degree days, it is best to set your AC to somewhere between 75 and 80 degrees.
How long should an A/C run on a 100-degree day?
According to Energy.gov, 68 degrees is a good room temperature while you’re awake and at home, but it can be set lower when no one is home or during sleep hours. You can reduce your annual cooling and heating costs by up to 10 percent by turning down your thermostat 7-10 degrees for eight hours a day.
How often should A/C filters be changed?
As a general rule, you should do a visual inspection monthly and change the filter. If the filters appear to be getting dirty sooner, then change them more frequently. A filter that does not flow properly will cause your unit to work harder, therefore, increasing your energy cost. In addition, a clogged air filter makes your unit run hotter and put more strain on your system which shortens its life span. It is the best maintenance & most cost-effective thing you can do for comfort, energy saving, and system longevity.
